Drawing on the fields of legal anthropology, political science and history, and in particular the emerging areas of ethnographies of human rights and contemporary slavery studies, this partnership seeks to deepen our knowledge about gender violence in war and legal responses to that violence, while also contributing to developing participatory research methods. Our methods include gathering existing original data and creating an open archive of material; interviews with men, children, and women; interviews with NGO workers about reparations; archival work; and analysis of TRC, ICC, and SCSL witness statements and other raw material. The partnership will triangulate its results by deploying archival research and oral history, qualitative interviews and observation, and socio-legal discourse analyses of legal decisions, policy documents, resolutions, and witness statements.
